Journey into the Oasis

Ready Player One is a 2011 science fiction novel having to do a lot with virtual reality. The story takes place in the year 2045 in which the city is a dystopia. The main protagonist is Wade Watts who's life is not that great however spends most of his time in the oasis like most of the world. Wade uses this virtual reality as an escape like many people trying get away from the troubles of the real world.
The creator of the oasis Halliday planted a easter egg in the game after his death. Whoever would find and discover the easter egg would inherit control over the whole oasis. Wade like many other is trying to find this easter egg. He ends up making some friends along the way with the other first 4 people to aquire the keys that are needed in order to find the egg. There group became known as the High Five.
I have seen the more recent motion picture adaptation and I have to say I was disappointed as the movie does not do this book justice. As most people would expect there are a lot of differences but I think where the movie fails is it does not really dive in the world of the Oasis that much and does not include the side ventures he has in order to get money to progress. If anybody is interested in more differences I found this article to be quite informative on the matter.
I have read this book before once although it has been quite awhile since then so it is still a fun read for me and highly recommend it. My favorite part of the book for me is where Wade must reenact War Games. For those who do not know War Games was a cold war science fiction film where a young hacker must stop a supercomputer from starting a world war.
However the big battle scene in the book was also fun and had a lot of action in it. As a person who plays games regularly this part kinda seemed similar to a raid mission on an MMO (mass multiplayer online) like World of Warcraft or something similar for example.
Anyways reading this novel again was enjoyable and I am glad I got the chance to read it again. Thanks for reading and I hope everyone is finding there own adventures in the world of IF.
